ShinShinim coming to Sydney Aug 2024

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BEING A HOST FAMILY FOR AN ISRAELI YOUTH FOR THREE MONTHS?

BJE’s ShinShinim don’t just join our community, they become part of our family.

Consider enriching your family life by hosting one of our ShinShinim in your home. Hosting has proved to be a wonderful arrangement, benefiting the young Israeli, the host family, and our local community.

There are two opportunities to host this year: Shalev Leonzini and Yoav Rubin are young men who have deferred their army service by a year to do Shnat Sherut (year of community service) in the diaspora.

BJE is seeking expressions of interest from families, who are willing to host one or both boys, for 3-month periods (or longer), from August 2023-July 2024.
Host families will receive a monthly allowance.

What are ShinShinim?

BJE is delighted to announce the launch of the ShinShinim program in Sydney. ShinShinim, a Hebrew acronym for Shnat Sherut (year of service) are the best and brightest of Israel’s recent High School graduates who defer army service for one year to become Israel emissaries in Jewish communities around the world. They volunteer, teach and engage people of all ages and infuse Israeli culture into local events and experiences. Bringing these ShinShinim to Sydney for a year will allow our community to build personal relationships that will bridge the gap between Sydney and Israel.

SHINSHINIM COMING TO BJE 2024 2

Meet Yael & Yiftach our current ShinShinim:
Yael is an 18 year old girl from Kochav Yair and Yiftach is an 18 year old boy from Ganei Hadar. They both come from secular homes and are proficient in English. They have demonstrated strong leadership abilities within their own communities and are excited to bring their knowledge and expertise to Sydney. They will be working integrally on BJE’s Jewish Journey, with the Youth Engagement Team, teaching in a variety of BJE schools, organising experiential activities for students. They will be leaders in Ha’Tzofim, take part in communal events, camps and will join our Year 10 Nesiah Israel Tour, as madrichim.
