Term 3 Reflections

As Term 3 comes to a close, I've been reflecting on the many ways BJE has supported young Jewish people across NSW this term.

One of the most significant moments was BJE's involvement with the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion. In July, I had the privilege of appearing before the Commission to ensure the experiences of young Jewish people in NSW public schools were heard. We also brought Jewish teenagers from non-Jewish schools together with Commission representatives, giving them the opportunity to share their own experiences and perspectives. What stayed with me most was the honesty and courage with which these young people shared their stories.

Another highlight has been our investment in educational excellence. Eleven BJE educators participated in the Rabbi Sacks Torah V'Chochmah Experiential Program, with support from the JCA's Esther and Zorach Balkind Fund, exploring how the timeless teachings of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks can inspire a new generation of students. Over the coming year, this learning will be transformed into new curriculum resources for our Enrichment and High School SRE programs. It is a powerful reminder that investing in great educators creates stronger Jewish learning experiences for our students.

We are also excitedly preparing for another significant milestone. At the end of the year, more than 65 high school students will travel to Israel. For many, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deepen their connection to Israel, the Jewish people, and their own Jewish identity. We look forward to sharing more about their journey in the months ahead.

Thank you for helping BJE provide meaningful experiences, foster strong Jewish connections, and create a place where young Jewish people across NSW can belong.
