John Hamey brings extensive educational leadership experience to his role as CEO, having served as Principal of Moriah College. A passionate educator committed to inclusive leadership, he has dedicated his career to connecting young people with their Jewish heritage through innovative programming and community engagement.

Chartered Accountant with over 25 years of experience in financial management and operational excellence. As Director of Operations, she oversees BJE's financial efficiency, strategic planning, and organisational systems to ensure the sustainable delivery of quality. Lianne's commitment to operational excellence ensures that BJE's resources are maximised to serve our students and families.

Ronnen brings 26 years of experience from Moriah College, including 12 years as Head of Jewish Studies Department. He has taught Jewish Studies, Jewish History, and Classical Hebrew as HSC subjects and accompanied students on educational programs to Poland and Israel. At BJE, Ronnen leads teaching and learning for Hebrew, SRE, and Extension programs while supporting youth engagement.

Heidi brings over 25 years of administrative experience across diverse sectors including education, marketing, and finance. She holds degrees in Business Administration and serves as the operational link ensuring smooth program delivery and family support. Her extensive experience enables her to coordinate complex educational logistics while maintaining BJE's deliverables.

With a decade of experience in business administration and education across nonprofit organisations, Cyndi has a dual role for systematic data management and coordination of key BJE programs. She has genuine passion for developing relationships and supporting families to achieve optimal outcomes for their children.

Prielle brings diverse experience across non-profits, finance, and technology with an honors degree in Media and Communication from UNSW. Her specialties include graphic design, creative strategy, social media, and website management. As a former BJE student who studied Hebrew for HSC, she brings deep community connection and a personal understanding of BJE's transformative impact.

Idan is studying Cognitive & Brain Science and Data Science at Macquarie University while working as the Youth Engagement Coordinator. He has been involved with HaTzofim Sydney since 2016 and participated in a gap year program in Israel volunteering in a youth detention facility. This experience deepened his passion for mentoring teenagers and helping them connect with their identity and community.

Shanie grew up in Sydney’s North Shore and attended public school, where she was involved in BJE programs like SRE, HSC Hebrew and the Year 10 EMET (Nesiah) Israel trip. She later spent a gap year in Israel with Bnei Akiva and has been an active member of CSG for over three years. Shanie holds a Bachelor of Media in PR & Advertising from UNSW and has experience in social media, project management, and digital marketing. She’s passionate about helping young Jews connect to their identity and is excited to be part of the BJE Youth Engagement team.

Roy runs SRE classes across multiple schools and organises events and camps for high school students. A former BJE student and graduate of the 2018/19 Israel Program, he brings an authentic student perspective to his leadership role. He currently serves as interim Merakez of HaTzofim Sydney while studying Law & Commerce at Macquarie University.

A senior lecturer, lawyer, and Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia with expertise in Information Governance and AI. Dr Tahlia Gordon has served as President of the NSW Board of Jewish Education since April 2017 and leads BJE’s strategic direction, policy development, and implementation of Child Safe Standards.

David brings over 40 years of governance experience and was awarded the Order of Australia in 2012. A past JCA President (2006-2011) and the founding Chairman of the Burger Centre, he is a respected community member and served as BJE Director since April 2017.

Tom Levi is a management consultant at Nous Group specialising in education strategy and transformation. BJE Treasurer since April 2017, he also chairs Little Dreamers Australia, supporting over 6,000 carers nationwide, and serves as a Surf Life Saving Patrol Captain at Bondi Beach.

Jill is an experienced People and Culture leader who joined the BJE Board in September 2022. Recognised as a values-driven, trusted partner, Jill has a proven track record in organisational change and creating high-performance environments where people flourish.

Bringing over 14 years of education experience locally and internationally, Leanne has served as BJE’s Company Secretary since April 2017. Combining her educational background with strategic insight and governance acumen, Leanne brings deep expertise in delivering educational programs for diverse audiences.

Paula Shakenovsky currently serves as Senior Manager in the AI Acceleration Office at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. With over 14 years in financial services, Paula brings a wealth of knowledge in finance, strategy, and innovation to her BJE Director role.

Sophie Hauser serves as an Observer through the JCA Observership Program. She is National Resource and Content Lead for headspace's Be You initiative and brings diverse experience in mental health, education, media and advocacy with previous roles at Mahlab, Polaris Media, Carers NSW, and Lifeline Australia..

Talia Zantis holds a degree in Education and is currently serving as Assistant Principal at Vaucluse Public School. An enthusiastic and dedicated educator, Talia is committed to making learning accessible to all students and fostering a love of education. She believes in the importance of providing all students with meaningful access to Jewish education and enriching learning experiences, and has a personal connection to BJE through her own children’s participation in its lessons.

Mark Hasson is an accomplished finance professional with over 25 years of experience spanning multiple countries, industries and both public and private enterprises. A chartered accountant by training, Mark has built his career around driving strategic decision-making and creating value through financial insight. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer of a listed investment holding company. He is passionate about leveraging his expertise to make a meaningful contribution to Jewish life in Sydney.

Michael Levenston is a finance and governance professional with deep experience across investment management, strategic advisory, and the not-for-profit sector. As an executive at Teaminvest Private, he leads initiatives that help organisations achieve long-term financial sustainability through endowment building, impact investment, and governance excellence.
