Judaism provides for several rites of passage in the life of an average Jew. Several rites are associated with the birth of a child, ranging from naming the child to circumcision of a baby boy to ritual redemption (‘pidyon haben’) of a first-born son. Other rites of passage are associated with major milestones in one’s life, ranging from Bar or Bat Mitzvah to marriage and dirvorce and, finally, to death. Judaism has detailed rites for all these milestones in a person’s life.
