Our year of service has been one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of our lives. Over the course of this journey, we’ve grown in ways we never imagined — shaped not only by the work we’ve done but by the people we’ve had the privilege to meet. From day one, we were welcomed into a vibrant and diverse community that made us feel at home. Whether it was the laughter with the kids at the Hub, the warmth of the Mt. Zion preschool, or the energy of weekly activities with the Tzofim, every interaction added a new layer to our sense of belonging.
This year taught us more than we could ever have expected — about responsibility, about leadership, and about the power of community. We’ve been challenged, inspired, and stretched far beyond our comfort zones. And through it all, we’ve come to see ourselves not just as visitors or volunteers, but as real participants in the life of this community. It’s hard to put into words just how deeply this experience has shaped who we are.
We were especially grateful for the incredible bonds we formed with the Youth Engagement team and the staff at the office, who made us feel like part of something larger and guided us with such care. Our connection with high school students through the lunch clubs, school visits, and unforgettable events like the Purim party and Lag BaOmer bonfire allowed us to engage meaningfully and joyfully.
These moments weren’t just highlights — they were the heart of our service. We also found a deep connection with the Israeli community in Sydney, especially through our work with the scouts, where we felt a strong sense of shared culture and purpose.
Looking back, we’re proud of what we were able to contribute — and even more moved by what we’ve received. This was more than just a volunteering experience; it was a year of growth, connection, and identity.
Now, as we prepare to return to Israel and begin our military service, we do so carrying everything this year has given us. We’re not only stepping into this next chapter for ourselves or for our families back home — we’re doing it with the knowledge that we carry a piece of this community with us. The Jewish community of Sydney has become a second family, and your support, trust, and love will continue to inspire us every step of the way.
