2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. For BJE it has been in keeping your children engaged with the BJE Jewish Journey and keeping them connected . Some of the ways we have risen to the challenges of this year include:
- Transitioning to online learning when schools were closed in March so we could still share the magic of Pesach with your children and thousands of others around NSW, as well as continue their regular Scripture (SRE), Hebrew and Extension lessons.
- Introducing a series of Facebook Live cooking sessions focused on the Chagim for Primary and High School students so they could come together online, have some fun and learn about Judaism through the food we eat during the different festivals.
- Encouraging students to write letters and draw pictures to send to residents of the Montefiore Home to brighten their days whilst in lockdown.
- Developing a series of online sessions with BJE Madrichim and the team from Alexander Muss High School in Israel to engage the BJE Israel Program students.
Whilst the changes we have made to our programming this year have allowed many students to continue on their BJE Jewish Journey, not all BJE programs have been able to go ahead. The most notable elements missing from this year are our Jewish Journey High School camps and the BJE Israel Program. We know that online programming cannot replace the friendships and community building that come from bringing groups of students together, or the experiences they have on a trip to Israel, but we are working on COVID safe alternatives and can only hope that we can start travelling to Israel again soon.
The most important thing for BJE at the moment is to stay connected with you and your children and to keep our community strong. If you are in a position where you can financially support BJE, we would greatly appreciate you making a tax deductible donation to our annual Kol Nidre Appeal by filling in the form below.
