Following the traditional European practice of making an appeal for Jewish Education on Kol Nidre, the Board of BJE introduced the Kol Nidre Appeal in Sydney in 1958 and invited all Synagogues to participate. Eight Synagogues and Congregations cooperated and in the first year 522 families contributed £2,200 towards the cost of conducting classes in schools. This was considered a good start and the Kol Nidre Appeal has continued since that time and become an important contributor to funding Right of Entry classes and making Jewish education available to students in public schools.

In 2016/17 BJE makes special acknowledgment of the donors who have contributed in memory of their loved ones; please see our Memorial Page for details.
